Two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle stars as the magical maestro Willy Wonka, world-famous inventor of the Everlasting Gobstopper, who has just made an astonishing announcement. His marvelous—and mysterious—factory is opening its gates…to a lucky few. That includes young Charlie Bucket, whose life definitely needs sweetening. He and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a mesmerizing, life-changing journey through Wonka’s world of pure imagination. Get ready for chocolate waterfalls, exquisitely nutty squirrels and the great glass elevator, all to be revealed by Wonka's army of curious Oompa-Loompas.

  • Christian Borle, who plays the role of Willy Wonka, pulls off a rare accomplishment this season: taking on a leading role in two different Broadway musicals. He also starred as Marvin in Falsettos.
  • The score includes songs from the original 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination” and “The Candy Man,” alongside a brand new score from the Tony Award-winning songwriters of Hairspray, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

HISTORY

The musical premiered in London's West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2013 where it ran for 3 1/2 years. It is based on the 1964 novel by Roald Dahl. The book also spawned a 1971 film adaptation called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as well as a 2005 Tim Burton movie.
