| The Tony Awards Announces Four Recipients of the 2007 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre
On October 2, the Administration Committee for the American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards® announced the recipients of the 2007 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre. These honors shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the theatre community—individuals and organizations who contribute to the vitality of Broadway and beyond, but who may not be eligible in the established Tony categories. They will receive their honors medallions at an October 30 ceremony hosted by multiple past Tony-winner Tommy Tune. They 2007 honorees are: Gemze De LappeKnown in the ballet and dance world as a replicateur, Ms. De Lappe for many years has been the go-to person to recreate much of the choreography of the great Agnes de Mille. Ms. De Lappe danced in the original production of Carousel, and has been mounting productions of Oklahoma!, Brigadoon and Carousel, as well as staging some of the de Mille ballets, for many years. Alyce GilbertMs. Gilbert, a longtime wardrobe supervisor, has worked both on and off Broadway for more than 30 years. She is currently the wardrobe supervisor on Wicked. Neil MazzellaAs the proprietor of Hudson Scenic Studios, Mr. Mazzella has built scenery for over 200 Broadway and touring productions and has been an unsung hero to many producers, directors and designers over the past two decades. Seymour “Red” PressMr. Press began his career 50 years ago in the orchestra of the Broadway musical The Body Beautiful, and has gone on to serve as musical coordinator or contractor in more than 58 Broadway productions. * * * Tony Honors are bestowed each autumn at a special ceremony that gives the recipients their own moment in the spotlight. The 2007 Tony Honors luncheon will be held on October 30 at Tavern on the Green, the famous eatery located in Manhattan's Central Park.
