Five Emmy Nominations for the 2011 Tony Awards Show

The Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced on July 19, and the American Theatre Wing’s 65th Annual Tony Awards® telecast on CBS (that’s the 2011 show, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris) was nominated FIVE times.  The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

The 2011 telecast received Emmy Award nominations in the following categories:

Outstanding Special Class Programs
65th Annual Tony Awards • CBS • White Cherry Entertainment (Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, Executive Producers) in association with Tony Award Productions • Host/Producer: Neil Patrick Harris

Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special

The 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place on Sunday, September 23rd, at 4pm PT/7pm ET, at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.  The awards will air live on ABC.

The 64th Annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place on Saturday, September 15th, at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Kirshner and Weiss previously won the Emmy Award in the Outstanding Special Class Programs Category in 2011 for the 64th Annual Tony Awards, 2010 for the 63rd Annual Tony Awards, 2008 for the 61st Annual Tony Awards and 2007 for the 60th Annual Tony Awards. They won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special in 2005 for the 58th Annual Tony Awards. Weiss was also the recipient of the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program in 2003 for the 56th Annual Tony Awards. Kirshner and Weiss have acted as executive producers of the Tony Awards telecast for the past seven years. 

Dave Boone was honored with Emmys in the category of Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special in 2011 for the 64th Annual Tony Awards and in 2010 for the 63rd Annual Tony Awards.
