Tony Awards Eligibility for 2013 – Part 2

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met on February 14 for the second time this season to decide the eligibility of Broadway productions for the American Theatre Wing's 2013 Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2012-2013 season to decide the eligibility for the 2013 Tony Awards. 

Determinations from the February 14 Meeting

The Committee considered 14 shows at this meeting from among the Broadway productions that opened this summer and autumn (they will discuss other shows at subsequent meetings). The shows considered are, in opening-night order: Grace; Cyrano de Bergerac; Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?; The Heiress; Annie; The Mystery of Edwin Drood; Scandalous; A Christmas Story, the Musical; Dead Accounts; The Anarchist; Golden Boy; Glengarry Glen Ross; The Other Place; and Picnic.

The Committee announced the following:

  • Patrick Page will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play category for his performance in Cyrano de Bergerac.
  • Dan Stevens will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play category for his performance in The Heiress.
  • Anthony Warlow and Lilla Crawford will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in Annie. 
  • Will Chase, Gregg Edelman and Chita Rivera will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in The Mystery of Edwin Drood.  
  • John Bolton, Johnny Rabe and Erin Dilly will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in A Christmas Story, The Musical.
  • Seth Numrich will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category for his performance in Golden Boy.
  • Al Pacino, Bobby Cannavale, David Harbour and Richard Schiff will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play category for their respective performances in Glengarry Glen Ross.  
  • Laurie Metcalf will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play category for her performance in The Other Place.  
  • Reed Birney, Sebastian Stan, Maggie Grace, Elizabeth Marvel, Mare Winningham and Ellen Burstyn will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Featured Role categories for their respective performances in Picnic.

All other eligibility determinations were consistent with the shows’ opening night credits.

What that means: In general, unless the committee has determined otherwise, performers listed ABOVE the title may be eligible in the Leading Actor/Actress categories; if a performers is listed BELOW the title, he or she is considered a "Featured" performer.

From Past Meetings

At the October 25 meeting, the Committee considered the following shows: Harvey, Bring It On: The Musical, Chaplin, and An Enemy of the People.

The Committee announced the following:

  • Jessica Hecht and Charles Kimbrough will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress/Actor in a Featured Role in a Play categories for their respective performances in Harvey.
  • Taylor Louderman and Adrienne Warren will each be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for their performances in Bring It On: The Musical.  
  • Rob McClure will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category for his performance in Chaplin.
  • Boyd Gaines will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category for his performance in An Enemy of the People.

All other eligibility determinations were consistent with the shows’ opening night credits. 

The 2013 Tony Awards

The 2013 Tony Nominations will be announced in the spring. The 2013 Tony Awards will be broadcast this spring on CBS.  Check back soon for exact dates and for more information.
