ABOUT THE SHOW
Set in Verona, Italy, Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two young lovers whose noble families are locked in a bitter feud. They try to defy the circumstances that forbid their love, with heartbreaking results. Orlando Bloom stars as Romeo, opposite past Tony Award®-nominee Condola Rashad as Juliet.
Throughout much of the 17th and 18th centuries, Shakespeare's ever-popular play was performed in adapted versions in which the two lovers survive.
The company includes past Tony-winners Brent Carver (Kiss of the Spider Woman) as Friar Laurence and Chuck Cooper (The Life) as Juliet's father Lord Capulet; and two-time past nominee Jayne Houdyshell (Well, Follies) as the Nurse. Ms. Rashad is also a two-time past nominee, having been recognized in consecutive years for Stick Fly (2012) and The Trip to Bountiful (2013).
William Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in 1597. One of his most beloved works, Romeo and Juliet has been produced on Broadway more than 30 times and has been adapted numerous times for film, stage and art.
