Tony Awards Eligibility for 2015 – Part 1

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met on November 13 for the first time this season to decide the eligibility of Broadway productions for the American Theatre Wing's 2015 Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Committee will continue to meet regularly throughout the 2014-2015 Broadway season to make eligibility determinations.

The Committee considered 7 shows at this meeting from among the Broadway productions that opened this summer and fall. Other shows will be discussed at future meetings. The shows considered are, in opening-night order:

Holler If Ya Hear Me
This Is Our Youth
Love Letters
You Can’t Take It with You
The Country House
It’s Only a Play
On the Town

The Committee announced the following:

  • Saul Williams will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category for Holler If Ya Hear Me.

  • This Is Our Youth will be considered eligible in the Best Revival of a Play category.

  • Tavi Gevinson will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play category for This Is Our Youth.

  • Rose Byrne, Annaleigh Ashford, Johanna Day, Julie Halston, Kristine Nielsen and Elizabeth Ashley will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play category for You Can’t Take It With You.

  • Blythe Danner will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play category for The Country House.

  • It’s Only a Play will be considered eligible in the Best Revival of a Play category.

  • Tony Yazbeck will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category for On the Town.

All other decisions were consistent with the opening night credits.

What that means: In general, unless the committee has determined otherwise, performers listed ABOVE the title on the show’s opening-night playbill may be eligible in the Leading Actor/Actress categories; if a performer is listed BELOW the title, he or she is considered a "Featured" performer.

The 2015 Tony Nominations will be announced on April 28, live on TonyAwards.com. The Nominations Announcement is sponsored by IBM.

The 2015 Tony Awards will be broadcast on CBS, live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 7 at 8/7c (delayed PT).
