The Tony Awards Administration Committee met on January 15 for the second time this season to decide the eligibility of Broadway productions for the American Theatre Wing's 2015 Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Committee will continue to meet regularly throughout the 2014-2015 Broadway season to make eligibility determinations.

The Committee considered 8 shows at this meeting from among the Broadway productions that opened this summer and fall. Other shows will be discussed at future meetings. The shows considered are, in opening-night order: 

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Disgraced
The Last Ship
The Real Thing
The River
Side Show
A Delicate Balance
The Elephant Man

The Committee announced the following:

  • Alex Sharp will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category for his performance in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
  • Finn Ross will be considered eligible, along with Bunny Christie, in the category of Best Scenic Design of a Play for their work in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
  • Josh Radnor will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play category for his performance in Disgraced.
  • Michael Esper and Rachel Tucker will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in The Last Ship.
  • Cynthia Nixon and Josh Hamilton will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Featured Role in a Play categories for their respective performances in The Real Thing
  • Erin Davie and Emily Padgett will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for their respective performances in Side Show.
  • Bob Balaban, Clare Higgins and Martha Plimpton will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Featured Role in a Play categories for their respective performances in A Delicate Balance.
  • Patricia Clarkson and Alessandro Nivola will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Featured Role in a Play categories for their respective performances in The Elephant Man.

All other decisions were consistent with the opening night credits.

What that means: In general, unless the committee has determined otherwise, performers listed ABOVE the title on the show’s opening-night playbill may be eligible in the Leading Actor/Actress categories; if a performer is listed BELOW the title, he or she is considered a "Featured" performer.

Additional Announcements

The Tony Awards Administration Committee has also determined the following, which will go into effect in the current 2014-2015 season:

  • If there are at least seven eligible candidates for nomination in either the Best Direction of a Play or Best Direction of a Musical categories, the number of nominees in the respective category will increase from four to five.
  • If there are at least seven eligible candidates for nomination in the Best Choreography category, the number of nominees in this category will increase from four to five.
  • In the event there is a two-way or three-way tie for the last slot of nominations in any of the eight established Best Performance categories, both or all three of the tied actors or actresses will be eligible for a nomination in his or her respective category.

The 2015 Tony Awards

The 2015 Tony Nominations will be announced on April 28, live on TonyAwards.com. The Nominations Announcement is sponsored by IBM.

The 2015 Tony Awards will be broadcast on CBS, live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 7 at 8/7c (delayed PT).
