| At the beginning of A Chorus Line, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete and the field has been narrowed down to 17 "gypsies". These dancers are vying for a spot in the chorus. The audition is the chance of a lifetime, but before the director makes the final cut, he asks each dancer to talk about his or her family, friends, lovers, ambitions, and careers. They share the stories of their lives through song, dance, and monologues.
