A Catered Affair is based off the 1956 film of the same title written by Gore Vidal; the film was based on a teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky. Prior to its Broadway premiere, A Catered Affair inaugurated the 2007-2008 season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre.
