Hair follows a group of hopeful, free-spirited young people who advocate a lifestyle of pacifism and free-love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality during the Vietnam War. As they explore sexual identity, challenge racism, experiment with drugs, and burn draft cards, the "tribe" in Hair creates an message of hope.

| History Hair, The American Tribal Love Rock Musical was the first production to open the New York Shakespeare Festival's new home at the Public Theater in 1976. After a nightclub run, it moved to Broadway and received two Tony nominations, including Best Musical. In the summer of 2008, Hair played at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park as part of Shakespeare in the Park before transferring to Broadway.
