TRIVIA

  • Motown began in 1959 when Berry Gordy secured an $800 loan from his family's savings club and started his own record company in Detroit, Michigan. Within a few years, this outfit was selling more singles and releasing more hits than any other record company.
  • Motown soon became the most successful African-American owned and operated record company--and business--in the U.S.
