HISTORY

Cinderella was originally broadcast live on CBS on March 31, 1957 with Julie Andrews in the title role. It was subsequently remade for television in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren, and again in 1997 with Brandy as the headliner. Although the musical has been presented in music-halls and opera houses in various adaptations, this Broadway premiere staging features a new book by Douglas Carter Beane.

TRIVIA

  • Cinderella was the only musical Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote originally for television.
  • In this production, Cinderella’s glass slippers are actually polyvinyl-chloride pumps studded with crystals, designed by Stuart Weitzman.
