Kinky Boots
Charlie Price (Stark Sands) has suddenly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola (Billy Porter). A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he’s meant to be. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible… and discover that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.

This new musical is based on the 2005 film of the same title. The show played a tryout engagement in Chicago in the fall of 2012.

TRIVIA

  • The original story of Kinky Boots is based on a British company called W. J. Brookes, which makes the Divine Range of erotic shoes for both men and women. The factory was featured in an episode of the BBC documentary series Trouble at the Top.
  • Although this is Cyndi Lauper’s first Broadway musical as a composer, she performed on Broadway in a 2006 production of Threepenny Opera, and played a Broadway concert gig in 2000. Harvey Fierstein is a Broadway veteran with four Tonys and five nominations to date.
