History

The musical’s original production opened on Broadway in 1964, winning nine 1965 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It has previously been revived on Broadway four times. It was made into an Oscar-winning 1971 Hollywood film. The show is based on Tevye the Dairyman and other tales by the Yiddish author Sholem Aleichem (1859-1916).
