ABOUT THE SHOW

A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. Both deeply personal and profoundly contemporary, Dear Evan Hansen is a new American musical about life and the way we live it.

Trivia

  • Co-composer/lyricist Benj Pasek has stated that the musical’s story was inspired by a traumatic event that occurred on the periphery of his life as a high school student in the Philadelphia suburbs.
  • This may be the first musical in Broadway history whose subject matter is the influence of social media on contemporary life. #groundbreaking

History

The musical had its world premiere at Arena Stage in Washington, D. C. in the summer of 2015, and was produced Off Broadway the following spring at Second Stage Theatre.
