The Story
This new musical follows the saga of the March sisters-Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy-as they grow up in New England during the Civil War. Jo (Sutton Foster) helps her mother, Marmee (Maureen McGovern), keep the family together while their father is away at war, spending all her free time writing "blood-and-guts" stories she hopes will one day be published.

History
Louisa May Alcott’s novel Little Women was an instant success when it was published in 1868. It has never been out of print. This production had an out-of-town tryout in North Carolina in the fall of 2004. While there have been several stage and screen adaptations of the novel, this is the first time Little Women has been seen as a Broadway musical.
