The Story
Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, this new musical features flatulent Frenchmen, killer rabbits, a chorus line of dancing divas, and one legless knight. Monty Python's Spamalot follows Arthur, Sir Lancelot, Sir Dennis Galahad, and the rest in their comical quest for the Holy Grail.
History
The British comedy troupe Monty Python's Flying Circus gained fame in the 1970s with a zany television series that developed an international cult following. Eric Idle, one of the original Pythons, has "lovingly ripped off" their 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, to create the stage musical. Spamalot features three songs from the film, as well as a new score by Idle and John Du Prez. The musical tried out in Chicago before opening on Broadway.
