The Story
Reginald Rose's courtroom drama concerns a jury deliberating what seems to be an open-and-shut case in which a young man stands accused of murder. As prejudices are tested and evidence weighed, each member of the jury is forced to confront his deepest assumptions and look past the show of the courtroom to reckon with the truth as he understands it.
History Twelve Angry Men began as a 1954 television drama, but it is best known from the 1957 film version starring Martin Balsam, Lee J. Cobb, E.G. Marshall, Jack Klugman, and Henry Fonda. A stage version has seen many productions over the years, but this was its first time on Broadway.
