  • Christian Borle, who plays the role of Willy Wonka, pulls off a rare accomplishment this season: taking on a leading role in two different Broadway musicals. He also starred as Marvin in Falsettos.
  • The score includes songs from the original 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination” and “The Candy Man,” alongside a brand new score from the Tony Award-winning songwriters of Hairspray, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

The musical premiered in London's West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2013 where it ran for 3 1/2 years. It is based on the 1964 novel by Roald Dahl. The book also spawned a 1971 film adaptation called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as well as a 2005 Tim Burton movie.
