John Lithgow: Stories By Heart
John Lithgow evokes memories of family, explores and expands the limits of the actor's craft, and conjures a cast of indelible characters from classic short stories.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Virtuosity and imagination combine as two-time past Tony Award®-winner John Lithgow creates a singularly intimate evening. With equal measures of humor and heart, he evokes memories of family, explores and expands the limits of the actor’s craft, and masterfully conjures a cast of indelible characters from classic short stories by Ring Lardner and P. G. Wodehouse.
- John Lithgow is a Broadway veteran who won Tony Awards in 1973 for The Changing Room and in 2002 for Sweet Smell of Success. He comes from a theatrical family, as he reveals in the play—his father performed in three Broadway shows and had a lengthy career in regional theatre.
- The two short stories he performs in the show are Ring Lardner’s "Haircut" (in Act I) and "Uncle Fred Flits By" by P.G. Wodehouse (Act II).
A one-act version of Stories By Heart
was first staged in 2008 at Lincoln Center Theater. Lithgow subsequently toured the show widely before its Broadway premiere.
