The Tony Awards Administration Committee met on April 29 for the fourth time this season to decide the eligibility of Broadway productions for the American Theatre Wing's 2016 Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Committee met regularly throughout the 2015-2016 Broadway season to make eligibility determinations.

The Committee considered 9 shows at this meeting from among the Broadway productions that opened this winter and spring. The shows considered are, in opening-night order: Bright Star, The Crucible, The Father, American Psycho, Waitress, Fully Committed, Tuck Everlasting, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and all that Followed.

The Committee announced the following:

  • Carmen Cusack will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for her performance in Bright Star.

  • Ciarán Hinds and Saoirse Ronan will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Featured Role in a Play categories for their respective performances in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

  • Jessie Mueller will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for her performance in Waitress.

  • Fully Committed will be considered eligible in the Best Revival of a Play category.

  • Sarah Charles Lewis will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for her performance in Tuck Everlasting

  • Michael Shannon and John Gallagher, Jr. will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play category for their respective performances in Long Day’s Journey Into Night.

  • Brandon Victor Dixon, Joshua Henry, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical category for their respective performances in Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and all that Followed.

  • Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and all that Followed will be considered eligible in the Best Musical category.

All other eligibility rulings were consistent with opening night billing.

What that means: Unless the committee has determined otherwise, performers listed ABOVE the title on the show's opening-night Playbill are normally eligible in the Leading Actor/Actress categories. If a performer is listed BELOW the title, he or she is considered a "Featured" performer.

So if you don’t see the name of the performer you are interested in listed above, that generally means you can determine the category in which he or she will be eligible by consulting the show's Playbill (as of the opening night).
