begins with two ex-lovers (Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber) who scheme to ruin the reputation of an innocent young aristocrat. As their game of manipulation becomes more intricate, they quickly discover that the stakes are higher than they bargained for…and their last encounter may be their most dangerous by far.
Christopher Hampton’s play based on the original 1782 novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos
debuted at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1985 before moving to London where it won the Olivier Award as Best New Play. A Broadway staging followed in 1987, and a previous Broadway revival in 2008. Hampton adapted the play for the screen in a 1988 film version entitled Dangerous Liaisons
. This production transferred to Broadway after an engagement at London’s Donmar Warehouse which also starred Janet McTeer.
