A story that brings to life the passionate and personal connection between a teacher at a school for the deaf and the remarkable woman he meets there.
- The film adaptation of the play (by Medoff) was released in 1986. It was directed by Randa Haines and starred Marlee Matlin, who won an Oscar for her performance, opposite William Hurt.
- Medoff wrote the play for Phyllis Frelich, who became the first deaf performer to win a Tony Award.
Children of a Lesser God premiered on Broadway in 1980 and won three Tony Awards, including Best Play. A London production received the 1981 Olivier Award as Best New Play. This revival was first staged by Berkshire Theater Group in the summer of 2017.
