The town of Sayreville, NJ was a co-producer of the show. The musical is set in Sayreville, which is the birthplace of rocker Jon Bon Jovi.

The musical’s book, or libretto, was written by producer Ken Davenport and the Grundleshotz, with additional material by Sarah Saltzberg. The Grundleshotz is a group of performers and writers including Sebastian Arcelus, Fred Berman, Michael Hirstreet, Jenna Coker Jones, Craig Jorczak, Nathan Kaufman, Jay Klaitz, Emily McNamara, Jennifer Miller, Bhavesh Patel, Sarah Saltzberg and Michael Tester. They helped develop the show through a series of improvisational rehearsals.

History

The musical premiered at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, NJ in 2013 under the title Garage Band
