The Tony Awards Administration Committee met on January 7 for the second time this season to decide the eligibility of Broadway productions for the American Theatre Wing's 2016 Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Committee will continue to meet regularly throughout the 2015-2016 Broadway season to make eligibility determinations.

The Committee considered 6 shows at this meeting from among the Broadway productions that opened this fall. Other shows will be discussed at future meetings. The shows considered are, in opening-night order: 

King Charles III, On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Allegiance, A View from the Bridge, Misery and China Doll.

The Committee announced the following:

• Tim Pigott-Smith will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category for his performance in King Charles III. 

• Ana Villafañe and Josh Segarra will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress/Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan. 

• Telly Leung and Lea Salonga will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in Allegiance.

• Donyale Werle and Darrel Maloney will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Scenic Design of a Musical category for their work in Allegiance.

• Phoebe Fox, Russell Tovey, Michael Zegen, Michael Gould and Richard Hansell will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Featured Role in a Play categories for their respective performances in A View from the Bridge.

All other eligibility rulings were consistent with opening night billing.

What that means: Unless the committee has determined otherwise, performers listed ABOVE the title on the show's opening-night Playbill are normally eligible in the Leading Actor/Actress categories. If a performer is listed BELOW the title, he or she is considered a "Featured" performer.

So if you don’t see the name of the performer you are interested in listed above, that generally means you can determine the category in which he or she will be eligible by consulting the show’s Playbill (as of the opening night).
