The title character is played by three women in this musical, representing the diva at three stages of her life: Babe, the kid starting out; Lady, the glam pop star; and Star, the icon.
Among the many real-life characters depicted in the musical (besides Cher) is Bob Mackie, who may be the first costume designer in history to both design a Broadway show and be portrayed as a character in it.
The show premiered in a Summer 2018 out-of-town tryout at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre before arriving on Broadway.
