Harper Lee’s novel became an instant classic after being published in 1960. It spawned a 1962 Hollywood film.

The character of Dill, a boy who visits the Alabama town where the action is set, is a fictional version of the very young Truman Capote, the celebrated author whom Lee befriended when they were children.
