Dorothy Michaels is the biggest sensation to hit Broadway in years. She’s talented, outspoken, and an inspiration to everyone around her. In fact, she’s quite literally too good to be true. Because squeezed into Dorothy’s sensible size-12 pumps is actually Michael Dorsey, an out-of-work actor willing to do anything for a job—even if it means playing way against type. Now, as audiences fall for Dorothy and Michael starts to fall for the woman of his dreams, he’s learning that the hardest part of show business isn't getting to the top...it’s keeping up the act. A new comedy musical based on the film of the same title.

Trivia

Tootsie features an original score by David Yazbek, the Tony Awards-winning composer/lyricist of The Band’s Visit.

The original 1982 film has been selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Whereas in the movie Dorothy Michaels becomes the star of a popular daytime soap opera, the stage adaptation elevates Michaels to—where else?—Broadway, to star in a musical.

History

The musical played an out-of-town tryout at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago in the fall of 2018.
